Somebody New Out Now
I love this song. It was so easy to write and even easier to record. It’s like it wanted to be made. Dave and I wrote 3 songs the day we wrote this. They were all pretty good! We were about to pack up and call it a day, when Dave offered to cook us dinner. He was in the kitchen while I strummed away in the other room on guitar. We wrote the lyrics as we shouted to each other through the kitchen. 20 mins later we sat down for dinner with another finished song. ⠀⠀ I recorded it a few days later with Simon. When you record a song, often you put down a guide track of guitar and vocal, this is your map. Then you build these layers with the other instruments around your map before going back to re-record the guide parts. This is because often the guide is simply not good enough and you can do better! It was rushed, the conviction in delivery wasn’t there, a chair creaked, a phone went off, the dog moved. But sometimes something magical happens and no matter how many times you try to do it again you can’t. It’s impossible to recreate it. ⠀⠀ What you hear here is the guide vocal, the first take. We tried to recreate it but we couldn’t capture it the same way. In the early moments between writing and recording a song for the first time, it’s sung differently, you’re still trying to piece it together in your head. Capturing the magic in that moment is what it’s all about. It’s a subtle difference but it’s there. If you listen really carefully there’s a bird outside the window singing with me too. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do. ⠀⠀ And incase you’re wondering what we had for dinner... we had steak and potatoes, the way to my heart. Love ya Dave and Simon x ⠀⠀ “Somebody New” is out now on all stores and streaming platforms!
