Johnny Ashby is a British singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. Johnny found a love for music through his Dad’s mixtapes. As a teen he played guitar in various bands and after leaving college, stepped into the session world. At 24 he set up a small recording studio at his local guitar shop where he recorded his first album Cannonball Days. The LP peaked at #9 in the iTunes songwriters chart which led to Huffington Post naming him a “Top 5 Emerging Icon". He moved to California with a suitcase full of clothes and a guitar he built himself with dreams of playing the legendary Troubadour. Since then, Johnny has released 4 well acclaimed EPs and his music has been heard on radio both in the UK and the US, gaining huge support from BBC Introducing and Absolute Radio in London. He's played The Troubadour 3 times and his songs have been featured on primetime television for shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Pretty Little Liars, Elementary, Rise, Baywatch, Teen Mom, Midnight In Texas and NBC's NHL.
Johnny's new EP is co-written with friends Fredrik Eriksson, Sebastian Fritze and Bill Delia from the band Grizfolk - A Los Angeles and Nashville based band with roots in Sweden, whose debut album “Waking Up The Giants” led to LA’s KCRW hailing them as “An artist you should know”. Grizfolk have since become hugely successful on the folk-rock circuit opening for artists like Bastille, Haim and X-Ambassadors. Their song Bob Marley has a staggering 33 million Spotify plays to date.
“We met up over drinks in Hollywood and finally set aside some time to write together” says Johnny. For the last 2 months while in quarantine, Johnny, Fredrik, Sebastian and Bill have been writing and recording Johnny's new EP “Born Again.” Expect to hear radio-ready anthems with lyrics that speak of finding connection, new beginnings and coming together.
